Omar Apollo – Ice Slippin Lyrics

Updated

on

The single “Ice Slippin” describes how Omar‘s childhood house doesn’t feel like a home. The record, co-produced by the musician alongside Teo Halm, examines the wreckage of words that can’t be taken back and the emotions that surface while yearning for familial acceptance.

“Ice Slippin is about reliving the thoughts I had passing through my mind the winter I came out to my family. Receiving cold judgment as opposed to the acceptance I felt I deserved,” Omar shared in a statement. “This song is a reflection and reaction of all the emotions I had to face before and after I decided to leave the icy streets of Indiana.”

Ice Slippin Lyrics by Omar Apollo

[Chorus]
When you comin’ home?
Home is where you’re supposed to be
Turn around, it’s not too late, did I hurt you?
You live too far away
Are you turnin’ off your phone again?
If I take back my words, would you return to me?

[Verse 1]
Driving ’round in the snow, ice on the glass
Heat didn’t work, couldn’t see nothing (Ooh, ooh)
Ice slippin’, swear to God, could’ve hit the brakes, steering wheel locked, almost said “Fuck it” (Fuck, fuck, fuck it)
And I hate me too much, could’ve just lied to me that night, could’ve just said nothin’
I wish you would’ve just said nothin’, nothin’ (Nothin’)

[Pre-Chorus]
And you thought what you said
Would be for the best
But instead, you broke me down

[Chorus]
When you comin’ home?
Home is wherе you’re supposed to be
Turn around, it’s not too latе, did I hurt you?
You live too far away
Are you turnin’ off your phone again?
If I take back my words, would you return to me?

[Verse 2]
Water drops, cracked phone, couldn’t even type, left you on read, I know it did damage
Bloodstains on your fists, used to only fight when you wasn’t around no cameras
And we used to be so young, didn’t even act right, and we didn’t have no manners
Really didn’t have no manners

[Pre-Chorus]
If I’m bein’ honest
If I said what I said, would you hate me?
Would you hate me?

[Chorus]
When you comin’ home?
Home is where you’re supposed to be
Turn around, it’s not too late, did I hurt you?
You live too far away
Are you turnin’ off your phone again?
If I take back my words, would you return to me?

[Post-Chorus]
Been about it, walking in on me
Been about it, walking in on me
Me

[Bridge]
Real life, real life, real life
You ain’t got no real friends in your life, your life, your life
You gon’ feel better by the springtime (Springtime)
You gon’ feel better by the springtime
Slippin’ on ice in the meantime
[Chorus]
When you comin’ home?
Home is where you’re supposed to be
Turn around, it’s not too late, did I hurt you?
You live too far away
Are you turnin’ off your phone again?
If I take back my words, would you return to me?

[Outro]
And you thought what you said
Would be for the best
Instead, you broke me down
Never thought that I’d leave
But I still believe
I can make you proud
