Originally titled RAGER BØY, Tyla Yaweh’s debut studio album was made over the span of four years and saw three rough draft versions that were each scrapped before its eventual release. Rebranded as a sequel to his 2019 mixtape, Heart Full of Rage 2 took its final shape when promotion for the lead single “SUMMER VIBES,” began in June 2023. Up until that point, the Orlando rapper had been dropping singles that were speculated to be a part of a later, wider release, but were never outright confirmed. The 2020 collaborations “Tommy Lee,” “Stuntin’ On You,” and “All the Smoke” were suspected singles for RAGER BØY until it was renamed.

In a July 2023 interview with BREALTV, Tyla describes structuring the album’s lyrical content around his real life experiences at the time. Since its conception, he went through a breakup, took a trip to Mumbai, and lost people close to him. In the same vein, he describes wanting to release a project that his peers could look back on in the future, which could explain the album’s several versions and lengthy rollout.

Heart Full of Rage 2 finds Yaweh collaborating with new artists and reuniting with familiar producers. Like its predecessor, the album carries a rather provoking title, yet both projects are sonically vibrant, upbeat, if not slightly rage influenced. Three days before the tape released, Tyla confirmed a deluxe would be on the way via on X.
