When You Go to Sleep is an EP following BIGBABYGUCCI’s 2023 album When You Wake Up, and serves as his fifth and final release of 2023.

Originally intended to be a deluxe to the album, BIGBABYGUCCI previewed a new song on ? on October 25th, 2023, and, the following day, teased the song as making it onto a deluxe album. He posted a screenshot to his Instagram story on the 9th of November, which showed the cover art for the song, additionally revealing the release date of November 14th, and an ? post the same day revealed the track’s full name, “Marni (Murder Sh!t).”

On November 12th, GUCCI made an Instagram post asking his fans which songs they would like on a deluxe and previewed four new snippets. Two days later, he posted a working deluxe tracklist to his Instagram story, including “Modern Day,” which was cut from the original release, “Wanted 4 Murder” and “Water Fountain,” which were both previewed before the album was released, and two recent songs, the previously mentioned “Murder Sh!t” and “Full of Sin.”

On November 17th, the EP was officially revealed in an Instagram post and was described by GUCCI as a “Side B” to When You Wake Up.

The release date of When You Go to Sleep was pushed back to the 15th, and subsequently, a Teen Spirit Radio 10 was teased in this post from November 24th. Additionally, the tracklist for the EP was revealed on this date but was deleted after, possibly due to the delay. Four days later, the tracklist was reposted on Instagram, seemingly confirming its finality.

Two weeks before the release of the EP, BIGBABYGUCCI released “Teen Spirit Radio Vol 10” to his SoundCloud, which included two songs from When You Go to Sleep, “Alone at Night Interlude” and “Night Shift.”

It is currently unknown which song was supposed to “feel like chewing 5 Gum,” but it can be assumed GUCCI was talking about “Icebreaker” due to it sharing the same outro track placement as the aforementioned song is in the tracklist. It is also possible that “How It Feels to Chew 5 Gum” was scrapped and replaced by “Icebreaker” due to fan demand, and that the two tracks are not identical, but it has not been confirmed yet.
