Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday Girls Lyrics

In “Pink Friday Girls” Nicki samples Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 hit single “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. It’s not the first time Nicki sings along to the 80’s hit lines, as she performed a cover of it along-side Katy Perry at VH1 Divas Salute the Troops in 2010. The title is, of course, a nod to the rapper’s 2010 album, Pink Friday.

Cyndi Lauper has been a significant influence on Nicki since early in her career. In an interview with New York Times, she reminisces about her fascination with colorful hairstyles after watching Cyndi’s music videos. The admiration between the two artists is mutual, as Cyndi has expressed her fondness for Nicki in an interview with Sirius XM, saying she likes the rapper a lot.

Upon the release of the song, Cyndi shared the track on her Instagram story, to which Nicki reacted on Twitter:

I’m told she’s never cleared a master recording. I am so grateful. I’ve always loved her as you guys know.
