Sonically, the song is much more relaxed than Minaj’s previous 2023 releases, Leaning more into a Pop-Rap style with Nicki rapping and singing.

Topically, “Last Time I Saw You” is about Minaj reminiscing on a past relationship with someone no longer in her life. She wishes she could go back and do things differently with this person, alluding to the fact that she still loves them. It is speculated that this song is about Minaj’s late father, Robert Minaj, who passed away in February of 2021.

On August 24, Minaj posted the pre-save link to her social media platforms, revealing the song will be released on September 1.
