Using as a metaphor the way fungi spread through the soil, the title track of Björk’s tenth album, lyrically and sonically summarizes the idea and feeling of “putting down roots” that Björk wanted to present with the album, as she herself described in Fossora.com:

I described the sound to the musicians as my mushroom album: tree roots and mycelium spreading deep into the soil.

The title is a feminine adaptation that Björk got from the Latin word “fossor” and means “she who digs” [into the ground].
